Writing in diffrent Erotica Genres

In how many ways can you describe a sex scene between a man and a woman?
You got your basic positions, you add some oral sex, maybe a lot of caressing and kissing, some sweet words or maybe some dirty words. Don’t forget the thundering hearts and the nails running down their backs.

When I started off writing Erotica earlier this year a choose a very plain theme: a young woman from a sheltered life moving to the big city where she met people with a lot more experience which opened up her eyes. The novella became the Nat Smiley series.
In these stories the sex is very plain, nothing spectacular apart from some big male parts and some very nice bodies, but the story’s are basically about a young woman having regular sex and learning from new experiences.

When it was time to write something new I felt I had to look at other sub genre within Erotica where I could explore more. I wrote the two books on TGirls, and two on Strap On sex. Why?

First of all, the writers who have written a lot of Erotica and are very successful say you should never use your own experiences. Why? Because they are just plain vanilla, everyone has done it. What you need to do is write about amazing sex, things most people might fantasize about but will never do, and that will become a better book. I followed this advice and wrote the books I mention above, and guess what? They sold a lot better than the Nat Smiley series. I have never been with a transvestite, I have never had strap on sex, so how do I write about it? Well, it’s called imagination, I imagined I was one of those characters and thought about what I would do, or how I would react in certain situations.

I think that Erotica writers should try to write something outside their regular Genre, if you write about Bondage, try some Taboo for example. It makes your sex scene come alive because you are coming at them from a different angle, it lets you use your imagination in a different way and it shows in your writing. Now, certain genres might not appeal to you, for example I don’t write about Alien sex or similar because I don’t find it interesting.

I also suggest that trying a different genre might make you some extra sales, because if you are lucky you hit on a lot of people's fantasy and there might not be many books under that topic.
Others say you should stick to your genre because that is what the readers expect when they see your name. True, I totally agree, but by writing in a different genre you might find new readers that after reading your book look at other titles and find a book under a different genre which they find interesting and buy, you never know what fantasies a person might have.

As of now my new book TGirls Encounters is available on Kindle.
The novella has two short stories.

When fiction contradicts reality.

I love reading the reviews from the people that buy my books. It’s very interesting to read what they liked and what they don’t like about my writing. Putting aside the grammar and spelling issues I focus on the story itself. Did they like it? Why? And if they didn’t like it, why not?

The other day I got a review from a person who in general like the stories but had an issue with how the characters interacted. The book in question is TGirls, which is a collection of stories about men meeting Transvestites and ending up in the sack with them. The reviewer says that it's not very likely a man would gladly have sex with a transvestite just after finding out about the “surprise”, a more natural behavior would be to get dressed and get out of Dodge.

I agree with him, but that’s where literal freedom comes in, I as the author decides on how the characters act. I think if I wrote about reality, then this book wouldn’t have been written in the first place. I have thought about how I would react if I met a man and then a few hours later and several glasses of wine he takes his clothes off and he has a vagina instead of a penis. Depending on if I like the person for who he is, which would be hard after just a few hours I might put the genital issue to the side and have fun. I’m always open for something new, and I think I wouldn’t run away.

Some might argue that it’s not the same thing, because men have a natural instinct to run from other dicks, and we women have a more curious mind. Meaning that it would be much easier for a woman to put aside the fact that the person she is about to have sex with turns out to be another woman instead of the hot man she thought he was when they met.

To a certain extent they would be right, but I do believe that a lot of men have fantasies about being with a Transvestite. I base this on the amount of TGirls hanging around the beaches and the clubs here in the summer. If there weren’t men interested in them, they wouldn’t be here, would they?
What if a woman for some reason or another decides to try same sex with another woman, and while on a business trip she meets this gorgeous young thing and two days later after a nice dinner they decide to go back to the hotel room, and when they get naked the woman gets the surprise of her lifetime, what would she do?

Food for thought.

Erotica or Porn

I haven’t been writing for a couple of weeks and the reason for that is I have been getting ready for winter. Summer clothes have been going into boxes and taken to my storage unit and there I picked up the winter clothes and brought them back home.
I live in a small apartment overlooking the ocean making it quite cold this time of year. I suppose when they built the building they thought it would be used by summer vacationers instead of struggling authors so the windows are not double glazed and there are spaces between windows and walls half an inch wide.
Anyway, on my last visit to the storage I decided to clean out a bit and I found a small box with various photos from way back when. In there was a picture of an ex boyfriend of mine, we dated for about half a year back in the 90’s, we are talking last millennium now, that far back. This guy used to buy Playboy and sometimes Hustler once a month. It never bothered me and I actually had a look at them a few times, and read some of the short stories.
I never felt that those stories were pornographic; sure there were some very detailed descriptions of things going in, and liquids coming out. One night I had a girlfriend come by for dinner and girl talk and apparently I had forgotten to put away one of these magazines and she saw it. While I was pouring wine she had a read, and when I came in with the glasses she asked me, ‘who is reading this smut?’
I told her it was my boyfriends and I didn’t think it was smutty at all. She asked if it didn’t bother me that he read it, and if her boyfriend would read such magazines she would either throw him or the magazines out, his choice.
The point of this is, what is smut and what is Erotica?
I think it depends on the reader more than on the author. Some readers like it more detailed, and other like less, so how do we as authors know what readers we have? If they write a review and comment we know at least a little, but most of the times we don’t. Some might argue that if the book is returned then it was too smutty, but I disagree. People might return the book for another reason, maybe it wasn’t the genre they were looking for or maybe they just clicked the wrong button.
Whatever the reason, I think we as authors have to put the “smut filter” on, and decide what we find acceptable, if people like it, great, if not there are thousands of other writers who might be more suitable.

Reviews-how to become better authors.

During the last few days I have had several reviews on a few of my books and I think they have been very helpful to me.
Sometimes people just write a sentence or two, saying things like “a good read, but would have liked it to be longer”.
The latest ones I have got have actually been very thought out and the reader tells me what they liked and what they didn’t like. I think that sometimes we writers are a bit too proud to want to make changes to the way we write, but this is wrong. Who do we write for? Some will say to ourselves which is true if the story ends up in a drawer but as soon as we put a price tag on it and sell it, we write for a reader.

We can continue to write the way we have done but I think we should listen to our readers and take note of their suggestions, especially if we want to keep them coming back and buy another book.

I for one will make some adjustments to my writing for the next books.

Winter tricks

Dear readers,
living in a area where tourism is the big bread winner and in my case inspiration for characters in my Erotic books, mostly for their physical appearance, I now have to accept that there won't be any hard bodies around for the next seven months.

What to do?

I will draw from my memory bank, all those good looking sexy men and women I have seen during the summer are stored in the recesses of my mind and now during the winter I scroll through them as if my brain was a Rolodex.

I sort them by age, sex and if they are dark haired or blond, then I try to remember what their personalities were like, were they shy, or extrovert, and so on.

This is part of being an author, look at your surroundings and use them to create realistic characters and surrounding.

Winter Erotica

As the days become shorter and the nights longer I wonder if there is a difference in writing Erotica in the summer opposed to the winter. Does the reader want the characters to bed down in front of a warm open fire or do they prefer to have them run naked on a beach so they can get away from the dreary weather and let their imagination fly to warmer climates.

Does a cozy cabin in a ski resort hold more Erotic moments than an all inclusive hotel in the Caribbean?
Maybe Santa Clause has a surprise for the woman at the office Christmas Party or is he a Taboo character not to involve in Erotica?

The lonely salesman waiting for his delayed flight at an out of the way airport might meet a sexy air stewardess who feel sorry for him and decides to make his stay over a hot night.

Whatever the story is, the holiday season that is only a little over a month away is sure to bring some hot reads for you to stay warm.

New Book "Men on Men"

When I decided to write this book, I had no idea where to start. I was was writing Women on Women at the time which was and still is closer to my heart.

Men deal with sex in a whole different way than us women, they are more clinical in a sense and less emotional about it. I talked to a few male friends of mine and sure enough, some of them had fantasies about being with other man and one or two had actually done it. What was the common thread was that they all looked at it as a "thing to do" to try it out. None of them felt any emotional connection with their partner,it was more like watching a movie together or a sports event. This difference very much from women's point of view where we often have to have some kind of emotional attachment to our partner.

I present to you Men on Men.

What is happening to Taboo Erotica?

As I  mentioned in a previous blog Amazon blocked two of my books, not because of content but due to their tags.

Now I'm hearing not only Amazon but several other main suppliers of Erotica are going through there files checking and rechecking for anything that might "disturb" some readers.
Why are they doing this? Some say because of social pressure, some say because of outside suppliers (payments).

I personally think there is a wide audience out there looking for everything from a stolen kiss at a dance, to hard core in your face Erotica, and they are willing to pay for it as long as it has certain quality.
So, if Amazon Et Al, don't want to sell our hard core stuff that is fine with me. I will sell my "fluff" on their site and the readers can go to my web site and buy directly from me the more explicit titles.
I will blog you when the site is ready with new Explicit titles available.

Writing Erotica that inspires the reader

The other day I got a review on my book Strap On. The reader says that the book inspired him and his girlfriend to try Strap On sex, and apparently it was a great success for both of them.

I think it's fantastic that my writing could help this couple try new things to expand their sex life.
Maybe that is part of what being an Erotic writer is all about, making the reader curious and try new things beyond what they are used to.

Explicit Erotica

Greetings
lately I have had some issues with Amazon and their censure department.

Not to go in to a long debate, I'm seriously thinking about beginning to publishing and selling my stories as a "explicit" version on my own website.

Some will be books I have published through Amazon, just that they will be sold as originally written, without the necessary censorship to comply to Amazon's guide lines.

Others will be completely new books, never to have been published on Amazon due to there explicit or/and genre.

I believe there is a genre between what is "commercial" Erotica and "smut/porn" where the story is told with all the graphic detail, but behind it are characters with needs/wants/and goals.

How many times have we as human beings said "harder honey ,lick me there, stick that cock in me, suck me harder" etc etc, why should we be denied to read a story with those words or some graphic detail, like "come on my tits, swallow" etc to comply with  rules and regulation based on their shopper profile?
If you agree with me,please "like" my blog.

Banned from Amazon

My book "Family Affairs" have been banned from Amazon, I have sent an e-mail to them asking if I can edit the book or something have it republished.

If that can not be done, which is what I under stand from other authors, I will publish it on another platform, I'm also thinking about creating my own web site and sell it from there, together with what ever other book might be banned in the future.

Writing credible sex scenes

I have spent the last few days reading Erotica to see what my fellow authors write, and I have found some pretty impressive scene changes.

I like to write credible scenes, where the characters move from one situation to a sexual situation in a credible way. What I have found is that a couple who is having a coffee after just meeting suddenly is in a room having wild sex.

I have been around a few years and I know such things can happen, but not several times in a row to one character. Sure, we write "fiction" and we have certain liberties, but I insist on that we as authors also have to reflect reality.

Personally I like to use a "catalysts",most of the time I find wine, or any kind of alcohol can be used to make a character do or say something that he/she wouldn't normally do. The important thing here is that most of us at one time or another have drank to much and done things we later might regret or like, all because we had a drink to many the night before.

We all write about adults doing adult things, so having a few drinks during a dinner, a vacation or with friends is something natural to us. Then, if we at the same time have some secret fantasies the drink might make us do things or say things that we normally wouldn't do.

To sum things up I truly believe that we as writers have the responsibility to write a credible scene change, or our readers will stop reading our books.

Dark Fantasies

During this month I have seen an interesting trend in my sales:

Best Selling book "Family Affairs.
Second. "Family Affairs 2"
Third. TGirls"

The pseudo-incest books are out selling anything else i have out there and it makes me wonder, do we all have some kind of dark fantasy about a sibling a parents a son or a daughter?
I'm the only child in my family and my father left when i was very young so I have almost no recollection of him. I did have cousins around when I grew up and I'm sure I would steal a look when we were at the beach or pool.

Maybe it's in our nature, some deep rooted gene that in some people are stronger and they act on it. What about when we lived in caves and the need to survive and keep the clan growing and there was no police, no laws, and no rules?

The next best selling book is about Transvestites, having fantasies about having sex with a Tranny or actually doing it is by no mean illegal, at least not in the western hemisphere, but again I find it interesting that it's such a popular topic. I wonder if the readers are men or women?
Here where I live there are many Transvestites especially during the summer, and I can that say some of them are gorgeous women, with a surprise, and I would go so far as to completely understand a man or a woman wanting to be with one.

That's all for today, just some food for thought. I have to get back to my writing. I'm writing a follow up to Strap On, and a book about men having their first same sex experience, but that's a topic for a another day.

Nat Smiley

Hello,
I have received a few e mails asking about when the new Nat Smiley novel is coming out.

Nat is very close to my heart since a lot of her personality is close to my own and when I left her in Ibiza I decided to take sometime to ponder about her future. Obviously she is no longer the innocent young girl you met in the first books. Even though just over a year has past she has experienced some very strange and some times dangerous things. I let her have a "narrative" vacation, but she will be back soon, and I can promise you it will be before Christmas.

On Writing Erotica

Dear readers,
when I began writing Erotica a few months ago it was a way to explore and tell some of my own experiences, but after publishing a few books that sold well, I realized that I had to move in to a completely different are, that of imagination.
Now, as we all know we have two hands, two feet, a mouth and some of us have two holes, others have one and a cock. This leads to certain limitations. Imagine if we had eight arms/hands like an octopus, completely different story.
That leaves us with characters to make the story interesting. Now, a character as we know from above has his or her limitations, so we are stuck with personalities, needs, and wants, and that's when it becomes interesting.
I like to write a big build up for the characters and just in the last few paragraphs get down and dirty, why? Because for me the characters needs and wants are so important to the story, not only the sex. An orgasm is an orgasm, but why and how they get there is the interesting part.

What do you think?

Up Date on new Books

Hello readers,

my two new books Strap-On and T-Girls are ready and formatted for Amazon Kindle. I'm just waiting for the cover art work.

These are two books that differ very much from the Nat Smileys books. First of all they are a collection of 4 short stories in each book, second, they are more focused on why some of us, men and women turn to such things as Strap On's and Transvestites.

I thought it would be thought provocative two write the two books seen through the eyes of both the dominating person and the submissive person. In some of the stories none of the characters are submissive or dominating, it's just two human beings who happen to meet and one thing leads to another.

Keep checking in for the exact date that I publish. Both books will be offered for free for three days.
